Navigation in the Museum of Bayeux Tapestry

Among many assistance functions, the museum guide offers search assistance for secure routes specific to the movement of Visually Impaired Persons (VIP) within the museum. So the museum curator (or any other sighted person) can:

  • automatically create a personalized route,
  • manually add personal points of interest considered usedful (e.g. for memorizing the route taken).

The video in Figure 3 shows the first version of the principle of assistance in finding retained secure routes. The starting point is calculated by the system (its tracking function) while the ending point is given either by clicking on the target point of the plane (figure 3 left), or by selecting it from a drop-down menu (figure 3 right).

Navigation is centered on the user (ego-centered) by providing him with the necessary information:

  • audio indication of the direction and the distance to the next stage (node of the navigation graph)
  • preventive indication before crossing a door
  • indication of the nearest point of interest
